Slovakia Stamps – Slovakia declared full independence on 14 March and, on the same day, Germany marched into Bohemia and Moravia. The newly-formed Republic of Slovakia issued her first stamps on 21th March 1939 and remained an independent stamp-issuing territory under German dependence and control until 1945. In May of that year Slovakia was re-incorporated in Czechoslovakia. Slovakia’s rarest is the 1939 1k carmine with an unusual perf 10 gauge, it is valuable in both mint and used condition. The postal history of this German protection period is interesting and highly sought-after by collectors. The Slovak Republic issued its first stamps on 1st January 1993, the stamps of Czechoslovakia remaining valid until 30th September.
