KING EDWARD VIII STAMPS

We sell King Edward VIII stamps, collections, complete sets, errors and varieties

Only one set of stamps was issued on 1 September 1936, the fourth stamp a 1d scarlet was issued on 14 September 1936. An elegant modern design showing the King’s head floating without a frame on a shaded background was well-received if short-lived. As these first stamps were of the most commonly used ½d, 1d, 1½d and 2d values the basic stamps are of little value however the essays, imprimaturs, “Specimen” and “Cancelled” overprints, the control and cylinder numbers, coil stamps and booklet panes are extremely popular amongst specialised stamp collectors. Postal memorabilia and other postal histories including first-day covers are also of great interest to philatelists of this period of royal upheaval.
