Bangladesh Stamps – Advanced collectors of Bangladesh stamps can collect two different areas of provisional issues prior to the first properly inscribed set of 29 July 1971. Bangladesh’s territory was originally East Pakistan and specialist philatelists might be tempted to collect the stamps of British India overprinted or hand-stamped “Pakistan” issued in areas which were later to become Bangladesh.

During 1971, political upheaval saw the Pakistan army trying to suppress unrest and eventually the Indian army intervened and a civilian government was established in December of that year. From 20 December 1971, chiefly hand-stamped overprints proclaiming the name of the new country were applied to the stamps of Pakistan in English and/or Bengali, these are popular with stamp and postal history collectors, unclear postmarks mean that the originating post offices of some of these overprints are still unknown.

The attractive and colourful issues of this country remain popular with expats throughout the world; the stamps have been printed locally, in England, Austria and Russia and depict a wide range of cultural and natural Bangladesh resources.
