International Organisation Errors

The issues for the various International Offices based in Switzerland, have long been an interesting area for collectors.

Overprint errors and varieties exist on some issues – although most of these do not appear in the standard Michel and Stanley Gibbons catalogues; instead they are listed and priced in the Michel Specialised and Amateur Collector catalogues.

One particularly rich area for specialisation is in the European Office of the United Nations 1950 Issue. The first setting of the overprint on the 5c to 70c Landscape stamps showed several positional varieties, which were soon discovered and corrected. One of the most striking (and sought after) varieties is the ‘CUROPEEN’ for ‘EUROPEEN’ error, which occurs on all eleven values. Great material for forming a serious specialised collection!
